X-Air Team Boat - Bayliner Wake Challenger 2280 V Drive

Most people don't realise Bayliner used to make Direct Drive Boats, They produced two models from 1995 to 1997. The 21ft model was a centre mount called the 2080 Ski Challenger and this one the larger 23ft model was called the 2280 Wake Challenger. In around 2001 the moulds were purchased by Lewis Boats Australia and they started producing the Lewis Challenger 2280 and then Challenger 2080 both in V Drive format. The Lewis versions are almost identical to the original Bayliners except for minor interior changes, top deck and different windscreen.

This 2280 was the only model imported new by Lakeland Marine and was one of the most spec'd boats of its time coming standard with Mercruiser Black Scorpion 330hp Engine, Full Wrap Around Seating, Carbon Dash, Shower and Heater. The main advantage over other Direct Drives is the freeboard. This combined with the large windscreen makes the 2280 a very dry warm boat.

With the additional X-Air Ballast System (see below) the wake is very respectable, big and solid... With one rear tank dumped and the Heavy Weight Ballast Bags moved to one side the wake is great for Wake Surfing.
