ABOUT X-AIR
X-Air Wakeboardings goal...
To provide great looking functional accessories that will last as long as your boat does...
X-Air Wakeboarding is owned and run by Adam, Linda and their sons Zak & Ryan.
X-Air Wakeboarding was conceived in 1996. At the time Adam was managing a Hydraulic Engineering Supply Company and made a stainless wakeboard pole for his boat after a friend returned from the USA raving on about this great new sport … wakeboarding.
The concept was simple... A 2.0 metre plus high tow point lifts the wakeboarder up in the air for bigger air and bigger tricks.
Initially there were some weird looks and odd comments about the high pole… “First time I’ve seen a mast on a speedboat!” , “ When are you going to put your sail up?!!”
Adam was always modifying things… cars, boats, anything, as long as he could make it different!
Three years down the track in 1999 Adam upgraded his boat and he made a mistake. To save time he bought an off the shelf powder coated aluminium pole and it was a disaster. After only 9 months the aluminium base plate was badly corroded and all the powder coating was flaking off. Then under load the pole came out of its base plate and hit the boat driver in the head causing him mild concussion... it could have been a lot worse.
After that Adam worked out that as per his original pole, stainless steel was the only way to go. His boat was in the sea as much as the lakes at Ohakuri… used for fishing, day trips as well as watersports so he designed a new stronger stainless steel high pole kit which would fit any boat.
Next modification was the addition of a sound system. The twin 12" Sub Rockford Fosgate "Box That Rocks" complete with big amplifiers was installed up in the bow of his Haines 1800s along with speaker box on the high pole... That too raised a few eyebrows... cranking music out on the water while watching the Americas cup was enjoyed by many other boaties!
As wakeboarding became popular more and more boats were seen with high poles and sound systems fitted.
Next Adam developed the X-Air Wakeboard tower along with other accessories such as board racks, rod holders and speakers.
In 2004 Adam left his job as General Manager of the Hydraulic Engineering Company to run X-Air full time.
Now X-Air has added a new range of products including Jetpilot Ride Gear, Anodised Aluminium Towers, Racks, Speakers, Mirrors and Lights plus Ballast Systems, Swim Platforms and Custom Graphics suitable for all boat types. X-Air also imports second hand Stern Drive and V Drive boats out of the USA.
X-Air also supplies the Stainless Steel FFX Tower as OEM Equipment for new Boats to a number of New Zealands top boat manufacturers including Tristram, CSB Huntsman, Buccaneer and Saronic Matcraft.
